Delayed synchronization after download: identify and correct the offset

An SRT file downloaded via DownSub retains the original timecodes from the platform. The offset appears when you import this file into an edit whose starting point differs from the source video, or when the video has been trimmed (intro cut, pre-roll added).

The problem is not DownSub. It is the gap between the zero timecode of the SRT file and the zero timecode of your timeline.

Global realignment or segment realignment

A uniform offset (all subtitles arrive with the same delay) can be corrected with a simple offset. In VLC, the G/H keyboard combination adjusts the offset in real-time in increments. In Premiere Pro, the Text panel allows you to shift all imported subtitles.

A progressive offset (subtitles drift over the course of the video) indicates a difference in framerate between the source and your project. Switching from a 25 fps timeline to a video encoded at 29.97 fps produces exactly this type of drift. Correction then requires a resampling of the timecodes, not just a simple offset.
